Sustaining Professional Growth: CEDPA’s Model for One-on-One Coaching
In 2006, CEDPA introduced a complementary initiative to our already successful training programs: a year-long professional coaching program designed to extend participants’ learning beyond the workshop setting to sustain their personal and professional growth and performance. The coaching program is optional for new CEDPA training participants. Those who wish to be involved are paired with a trained coach who has been recruited from CEDPA’s extensive alumni network, which includes women in top leadership positions such as parliamentarians, ministers, political leaders, journalists and community activists. CEDPA ensures that all coaches are women with substantial technical expertise, strong interpersonal skills and a firm dedication to coaching future leaders. The coaching model is unique for development organizations in that it recognizes the potential impact of a neutral resource outside of one’s organization during periods of growth and prosperity, as well as during challenging times.
