International Women's Day 2008: Investing in Women and Girls
March 6, 2008—CEDPA marks International Women’s Day, March 8, by celebrating the promise of thousands of women who are leading change within their communities.
This year’s Women’s Day theme is investing in women and girls.
Research shows that investing in women pays off huge dividends for communities through improved family health, greater education for children and improved economies. At CEDPA, this has been our experience through more than 30 years of on-the-ground programming.
We invite you to read the stories of six CEDPA alumni who are improving their families and nations. Their achievements offer hope for a day when every girl will grow up to reach her full potential. Click on their pictures below for more.
These six women participated in CEDPA's Global Women in Management Program. The intensive four-week training teaches skills in project management, decision-making, business development, proposal writing, advocacy, strategic communications and monitoring and evaluation. Participants receive ongoing support once they return to their home countries through an innovative coaching program.
Participants were funded through the generous support of the ExxonMobil Foundation's Educating Women and Girls Initiative.
