International Development

Humanitarian and development organizations have stepped up calls to urge the next U.S. president to make dramatic reforms in the U.S. foreign aid system—including a revision of the foreign assistance act and calls for a cabinet-level department for global and human development.

Reporters are invited to a Congressional briefing by the Centre for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA), other humanitarian and development experts, and 26 global women leaders from 16 countries on how to make U.S. foreign assistance more effective through efforts that empower women and youth within communities.

Congressional co-sponsors for the briefing include Representatives Lois Capps (CA), Yvette Clarke (NY), Sheila Jackson Lee (TX), Barbara Lee (CA), Betty McCollum (MN), Diane Watson (CA) and Lynn Woolsey (CA).
