Remembering Florence UdumaDecember 16, 2009—CEDPA mourns the loss of Florence Uduma (pictured right), a program assistant on CEDPA’s USAID-funded Positive Living project in Nigeria. She passed away on November 21 after a brief illness. Florence was born in the Ohafia community of Abia State, in the southeastern part of Nigeria. She began working at CEDPA in March 2008. The many people who came into contact with Florence when she was CEDPA’s front desk officer in the Abuja office always remarked on her friendly spirit. Later, as a program assistant, she performed many duties, including helping to plan and implement training programs, develop educational materials, and provide support for a number of CEDPA/Nigeria programs. Her dedication to improving the lives of her fellow Nigerians led her to volunteer to be photographed for various HIV prevention posters that have been used throughout the country. Her colleagues will always remember her for her hardworking nature, courage, generosity, good sense of humor and her love of cooking. Florence’s dedication and kindness will be greatly missed by CEDPA, her community and her family. |
