In Memory of Dr. Marguerite LimagnackMay 4, 2012 - Late yesterday afternoon CEDPA learned of the loss of one of our most recent and dearest alumni, Dr. Marguerite Limagnack Miko. Marguerite passed away on May 2 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Marguerite was a dedicated dental surgeon and forceful advocate for dental health and women entrepreneurs. She founded her own dental practice in Cameroon in 2000, worked as a consultant and actively took part in sensitization and prevention campaigns on dental hygiene in primary schools in impoverished areas. As founder and president of the SMILE association, she trained about 30 female dental assistants and 80 oral health workers who educate and screen around two thousand children each year. The association designed a project named “The Integrated Oral Health Solution” that included a mobile dental clinic, one-minute dental clinics, a dental hygienist school and a mutual fund for oral health care, offering affordable, quality dental care to the public at large. Marguerite was also a board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Cameroon and the chair of the Cameroon Business Women’s Network (CBWN), an association of women entrepreneurs with 70 institutional members representing over 70,000 women. CEDPA first met Marguerite when we invited her to speak at our Francophone Global Women in Management workshop in Cameroon in 2010. Her inspiring work with SMILE and as head of the CBWN led to an invitation to participate in the 2011 Global Women in Management workshop held in Washington, DC. During the workshop, CEDPA and her fellow participants came to love Marguerite’s vivacious spirit, thoughtful insights and lovely personality. She will be tremendously missed by all of us. |
