May 15, 2006Women and girls are increasingly bearing the burden of AIDS. Worldwide, 17.5 million women live with HIV, three out of four of whom are in sub-Saharan Africa. AIDS is now the leading cause of death for African American women aged 25 to 34 in the United States.

On the eve of a major global political review of AIDS at the United Nations, May 31-June 2, women working on the frontlines of the epidemic will join CEDPA to call for changes in policies and in prevention, care and treatment to reflect the new face of AIDS.

These women will offer stories of living with HIV and propose solutions to combat stigma and discrimination and mobilize other women and men to insist on treatment and services for all.
